The Ellsworth School Department is looking for substitutes in all departments - teachers, ed techs, secretaries, bus drivers, and custodians.  Effective substitutes need to know how to access policies and procedures, as well as the facilities.  This workshop addresses these topics, as well as the application process, tools and tips for classroom management and instructional practices for substitute teachers.  It will be followed up by a meeting with school administrators at relevant schools. This is an in-person workshop.

Applying for Federal jobs is different than applying for jobs in almost any other business or industry. Join representatives from Acadia National Park for a 2-hour workshop to learn about employment opportunities at Acadia, how to write a Federal Resume, and the application process.

Acadia National Park hires more than 100 seasonal and many permanent employees each year into jobs that have great potential for developing into exciting careers. Careers in maintenance, fee collection, education, interpretation, resource management, law enforcement, and more are available. This is a hybrid course.  If you sign up here, you're signing up for the in-person option.

Google: Gmail 101

Calendar Sep 24, 2024 at 4 pm, runs for 1 week

This workshop is for someone who already has a Gmail account, but may not know how to access it on the website so other Google suites can be used.  This workshop will introduce you to composing and replying to emails, adding and downloading attachments, inserting links, using labels to organize emails, managing settings, saving contacts, and more as time permits. This is an in-person class. 

Makeup class, if needed 02/13/24.

You’ll need a Gmail account for this workshop, and will need to know your account username and password.  It’s ideal if you access your Gmail on the web vs. a computer-based program.  If you’re not sure what this means, please contact us and we’ll be glad to assist you!  Google applications are free and are a practical way to learn programs without investing in software.

Vanessa loves working with adult learners. She is really easy to be around and makes people extremely comfortable; she even makes learning math and computers fun! She is committed to helping adults discover their strengths, build their confidence, and realize they can accomplish their goals. In her free time, she loves to travel and explore the outdoors. Vanessa teaches math, science, technology, and provides college and career advising.

There is more to being successful in college than signing up for classes and going to class. This workshop will cover identifying your life and career goals, selecting the right college for you, completing college and financial aid applications, scholarships, study skills, time management, and more. 

This workshop will be facilitated by an experienced college advisor and will include speakers from programs that offer support to ensure success in college. This workshop will be most successful if you are proactive in completing assignments between sessions.

Google Docs: Basics

Google docs is an invaluable and easy to use online tool similar to Microsoft Word. It's free, accessible from all devices and is super easy to share. Learn how to create documents, master useful formatting functions, share documents with others, and more as time permits. This workshop will introduce you to these features and share resources for futher learning.  This is an in-person class.

Communication for the Early Childhood Professional

Are you interested in feeling more confident in communicating with others and on a team?  Teamwork and communication in the 21st century are skills that direct service employers want their employees to have. 

This 8-week, in-person course is designed to introduce the components of the skills of listening actively, strengthening relationships and focusing on solutions through communication, and to provide an opportunity to practice and demonstrate these skills.  There will be lots of listening, responding, teamwork, and talking about problems and solutions.  This course is a component of the Early Childhood Education Micro-credential, but anyone can benefit!  This is an in-person class. Emily Nash brings many years of experience teaching adult education and has strong skills in designing curriculum to meet the real needs of students. She’s respectful and sensitive to the needs of adult learners and is always a good listening ear. She loves to read, and between stints as an adult education teacher, she is a seasonal professional landscaper. Emily is a student advisor, and teaches English, HiSET prep and Multilingual Learners.
