Microsoft Excel Power Tools-Power Query, Power Pivot Tables, Power Business Intelligence (Jan)

Power Query allows you to import and shape data.  It has an easy to use interface, powerful tools to import and clean data.  

Power Pivot Tables allows data modeling and calculations.  It easily handles millions of rows of data and has modeling tools for efficient data storage and analysis. 

Power BI (Business Intelligence) is a complete business intelligence tool.  It features incredible visual options, has simple built-in interactive options, fantastic graphs and allows easy sharing of data.   

The design of this course includes 2-3 hours of work with the software between classes to gain maximum benefits from the sessions.

You will want to have Microsoft Excel on your computer for this workshop and many people find it helpful to have two monitors, though it is certainly not necessary to benefit from the sessions.  There are two ways to accomplish this: 1) attach an external screen to your computer (contact our program if you need technical assistance with that); or 2) using two computers (one for Excel and the other for the ZOOM meeting).  This is a live, online class using ZOOM; makeup class, if needed, 01/30/25.

Val is a lifelong business educator and academic advisor focused on helping enrich and enhance students' educational and life purposes. He is experienced in college management and as an adult educator having taught at Mid-State College and Kennebec Valley Community College. His teaching experience covers over 45 years in the areas of computer applications, accounting, and Quickbooks training workshops.

Employers tell us they need employees who are skilled, can read well and express themselves, use computers and solve problems. They also tell us they need employees who can come to work regularly and be on time, work as part of a team, and manage conflict.

The WorkReady credential addresses the soft skills need to be successful in the workplace and is designed for people who have difficulty getting or keeping a job. Those eligible and successfully completng the course will earn a recognized credential.  This is a hybrid course with some in-person and some online assignments.    

We are working on the schedule for in-person component of this course, but please reach out to learn more and get started with some of the activities. The first step is to meet with one of our career advisors to make a plan that meets your needs and goals. Call us at 664.7110 to schedule an initial appointment.

Microsoft Excel Basics (Feb)

During this workshop, you will learn how to navigate a simple Excel worksheet, enter data into a worksheet, use basic math functions, do basic formatting, replicate data, use built-in functions and work with columns and rows.  The design of the course is that you'll attend the class and also do 2-3 hours of work between sessions which greatly enhances your learning.  This is a live, online class using ZOOM.

You will receive a link to a brief pre-assessment with your email receipt.  This will assist the instructor in meeting your goals for the class.
