Holiday Cookie Baking!

Join passionate baker JoAnne Wood for an evening of holiday baking! Get into the holiday spirit while learning how to make ginger sandwich cookies with orange buttercreaam filling, coconut meringue macaroons, neapolitan thumbprint cookes, and peppermint crunch double-chocolate chip cookes.
- This is an in-person class.
- The registration fee includes a $10 supplies fee
- The make up date, if needed is December 18th
JoAnne was born in England, grew up in San Francisco, and comes from a long line of fine British bakers. After graduation from the California Culinary Academy, she worked as a pastry chef at fine dining establishments in the San Francisco Bay area. Since moving to Maine in 2000, she has worked as a professional pastry chef, owned a dessert catering company, and taught cooking classes. She has a passion for cooking and baking, and for teaching people of all ages.

If you are interested in improving your career options, there are many offerings in our program that can assist you in reaching your goals. This option will get you on the road to building your skills and confidence for success. You will work with a veteran instructor to design your own individualized program.

Indoor Composting Part I: Vermicomposting
with Lauren Landers

Discover the basics of vermicomposting, or composting with worms, and learn how to create and use your own worm bin for kitchen scraps! (Composting worms not included). This is an in-person class.
Lauren Landers is a gardening writer and active master gardener volunteer who enjoys sharing her love of nature with others. Focusing on hands-on learning and functional skills that will improve your gardening practice, Lauren's classes cover topics like pollinator gardening, edible gardening and food preservation.
Women’s Basic Chainsaw Skills & Safety
with Alissa Wetherbee

Ellsworth Adult & Community Education is collaborating with Axe Women Loggers of Maine to offer a workshop for women who want to learn how to use a chainsaw safely, for working in the woods or for timbersports competition. Learn from World Timbersports Champion Alissa Wetherbee.
Safety toed boots or shoes is required, and please bring leather work gloves as well. Chainsaws and safety equipment are provided for the workshop, which will be a combination of presentation, demonstration and practice using the saw. The presentation/demonstration and some practical will be indoors and small teams will rotate outdoors for chainsaw practice. Dress appropriately. Limit 12.

Outdoor Composting
with C.J. Walke

In this workshop, we will discuss backyard composting as a method to manage kitchen food scraps and debris from your gardens and lawns, as well as how to recycle those nutrients into usable compost that can go back into your soil. We will cover the biology of the composting process and different techniques for successful backyard composting. This is a live on-line workshop using ZOOM.
C. J. Walke has been working for the Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association since 2006 and for the past decade, he has focused on providing technical services to farmers and teaching practical skills related to organic tree fruit cultivation.
Culinary Herbs 101: How to Grow, Dry & Use Kitchen Herbs
with Nicole Gurreri: Healthy Acadia

This 1.5 hour class covers the basics of growing common kitchen herbs like oregano, thyme, basil, and cilantro. We will learn how to preserve herbs through drying and freezing, and how to utilize culinary herbs in various recipes. This class will be interactive with time to share ideas and ask questions! All participants receive a recipe booklet with recipes for herbs covered in class. This is a live online class using ZOOM

Nicole Gurreri is a professional horticulturist with a background in public health and nutrition. She enjoys meeting new people and building community within her courses.
