WorkReadyTM Credential is a workforce training program designed to prepare participants for the attitudinal and disciplinary rigors of employment and to provide a highly structured simulated work environment that encourages the behavior required for workplace success. 

Business Training-Designed for Your Employees We will design  a training to meet the unique needs of your business. We have experience with task analysis of specific jobs to design and deliver relevant training.  Examples have included training people to write effective notes in healthcare charts, reading instructions and writing notes in a variety of local settings as well as technology training (i.e., Excel and Google Suites for businesses and nonprofits).  These trainings are cost effective and responsive to the business needs.

Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine’s Workforce offering funding for pre-hire training, incumbent worker training, and scholarships. We can assist businesses in accessing this incredible resource for accessing training!

Juliette Wilbur has worked in Probate for 20 years. She is committed to assisting people in breaking down the barriers to discussing preparations for the inevitable.  She will share some simple tools and resources to assist people in avoiding the time, energy and pain that can impact families for generations.  This is an in-person class.

Take control of your time and take control of your life. Join us to learn       easy ways to take back your time and create more time for you - whatever you want to accomplish. 

Class 1 - We will talk about the benefits of planning, ways we can plan (ex. time blocking, time of day, and routines and goals) and methods of planning (ex. paper planner, digital planner, google calendar, etc.). We will set goals and plan our upcoming week.

Class 2 - We will go over our previous week and pull out any opportunities for change. We will brainstorm ways to overcome those opportunities and plan another upcoming week. 

Class 3 - We will compare our weeks, brainstorm some more, and talk about other ways. 

 This is an in-person class.

Join Jess for a day full of creativity and fun while you paint your own 2'x2' barn quilt! The barn quilts created in this class will be painted on a primed wooden signboard with your choice of block quilt design and paint colors. Jess will guide you through marking your design, taping and painting. Not just for barns anymore, your decorated barn quilt can be hung inside your home as well as outside. You will be provided with instructions on how to seal your board for inside or outside display.

All materials will be provided including your 2x2 board, choice of paints and designs, and tape. Please bring an apron/smock and a dish to share for a potluck lunch. Drinks will be provided. 

Jess Johnson is a teacher and mixed media artist. She has been in Maine public education for 20 years and enjoys teaching others and loves seeing the different perspectives of one's art pieces.

Students will learn the fundamentals of portrait drawing. They will study individual features, learn proportions, and anatomical structure.  Students will be challenged to make decisions as they work to express their perspective and personal interpretation, culminating in a life-size portrait. This class will also involve sketching from a live model, drawing the full forms, learning about movement, volume, and composition.  This is an in-person class.  No class 10/14/24 or 11/11/24. Makeup class, if needed, 12/16/24.

For supplies, we will use large drawing pads, pencils, pens and charcoal.  

France Hilbert has taught classes at College of the Atlantic since 2018. She is a professional artist and art educator with an extensive resume of training and experience including major commissions and installations. Her artistic education began at the age of seven, when she was taught by her grandfather, the late artist Jaro Hilbert. From him, she received a thorough education in the classical tradition. She pursued her formal education at the National Fine Art Academy of Paris, France, (ENSBA), was an artist in residence in Copenhagen, studied German Expressionism in Berlin, and traveled extensively to paint and study around Europe and abroad. At the Art Students League of New York, she received a Merit Scholarship to master portraiture in painting and completed a Certificate in Sculpture. She was selected for “Model to Monument”, a sculpture program at The Academy of Art, Newington Cropsey Foundation, Hastings on Hudson, NY and received an Edward G. McDowell Travel Grant from the Art Students League of New York. Of her many public and private commissions, some are permanent installations. “Talma”, a 7-foot bronze sculpture is installed in the public square of the Theatre of the Valley of L’Yerres, in Brunoy, France. A pair of 4-foot bronze relief sculptures entitled ”The Calling” are installed at the Georgetown University Medical School building in Washington, DC.

If you’ve been taking photos for a while but you want to take your compositions to another level, this class is for you. You will learn to focus on what you see, and work to make the camera capture your vision. 

The class is a combination of evening class sessions and field trips.  Key to your success will be making a significant commitment to practice between sessions what you have learned. You don’t need a fancy camera for this course, whatever device you have on hand will be just right. 

This course is designed for people who are experienced in taking photos, have a knowledge of the features of their camera and the ability to share their photos. This is an in-person class.

George Blumenschein, Sr., a landscape photography veteran with over 20 years of expertise, skillfully captures the world's beauty through his seasoned lens. His images, frozen moments in time, transport viewers to awe-inspiring landscapes, showcasing a deep appreciation for nature's wonders.

The first step to taking photos is to learn your way around your camera. All the information you need may be in the instruction manual but it’s often easier to work with others to figure out the features, settings and more. 

One of the issues with the transition to digital cameras is that it’s easy to take the photographs, but if you don’t know how to transfer them to other devises so you can share them with others, what’s the point? If you would like support, this class is for you! This is an in-person class; make-up class, if needed, 10/16/24.

This course will help beginners develop basic proficiencies in all four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Class time will be devoted to reading dialogues, pair work, small and large group discussions, written and oral practice of structure, and vocabulary, and use of internet resources.

Throughout the eight weeks, students will learn to: greet someone; ask their name and say your name; identify a person; approach someone; ask age,  address and telephone number; talk about one’s tastes; name, show and locate objects; express possession; indicate colors; characterize an object; ask for the price; express your tastes; show and locate people; ask your way; indicate a direction; and indicate a means of transport.  We will use the French TAXI curriculum which will be provided as a PDF.  This is an in-person class.
