Early Childhood Education Micro-Credential

Free

with EAE Team

Passionate about supporting young children and eager to make a difference?  Would you like to confidently start a job with a local early childhood center?  Ellsworth Adult & Community Education is working with partners to develop an Early Childhoood Education Micro-Credential.  This certificate offers the skills, knowledge and experience to start a job in a center!

Our micro-credential is a standards-based credential, so you demonstrate skills and knowledge in a variety of ways, including past learning and experience.  You earn three badges that include building a work readiness and communications foundation, early childhood education certificates, and hands-on experience in the classroom.

Badge 1 Communications for the Early Childhood Professional, Work Readiness for the Early Childhood Professional, Pediatric First Aid & CPR, Mandated Reporting and more to prepare for Badge 2.  Most of Badge 1 is achieved in-person in classes scheduled at Ellsworth Adult & Community Education.

Badge 2 You’ll earn certificate options documenting your knowledge and skills to work as part of a team to provide professional, safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate programs in partnership with families.  All of these certificates are available self-paced online.

Badge 3 offers hands-on experience demonstrating that you can apply the knowledge and skills in a local facility.  These sessions are set up upon completion of Badge 2.

Give us a call to learn more about the micro-credential and the opportunities. The in-person sessions are on Wednesdays during the day.

English for Life & Work

Free

with Emily Nash

This course is designed to help adults improve their reading, writing, proofreading, editing, and revising to prepare for standardized exams.  We cover the basics of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph development, and will eventually write effective essays with clear ideas, smooth transitions, and logical support.  We will practice planning, research, prewriting, and organizing our writing.  Learning to proofread for punctuation, usage, content, and support will be emphasized.  This is an in-person class with ongoing enrollment September through May.

Emily Nash brings many years of experience teaching adult education and has strong skills in designing curriculum to meet the real needs of students. She’s respectful and sensitive to the needs of adult learners and is always a good listening ear. She loves to read, and between stints as an adult education teacher, she is a seasonal professional landscaper. Emily is a student advisor, and teaches English, HiSET prep and Multilingual Learners.

Math for Life and Work

Free

with Vanessa Richards

If you don't use it, you lose it!  This is most notably true about math. Most of us read and write almost every day, but how many of us calculate percentages regularly enough to make it stick in our brains?

Work with our math teacher to change your perspective on math, get rid of your negative feelings and anxiety, and get tutoring targeting your specific needs and goals. You can use technology and other learning resources to practice the skills you learn directly from your teacher and other learning resources.  You will learn how to study on your own and start habits to make you confident and successful in math and other subjects.  Learn free online tools and how to apply math in real life situations.  Vanessa Richards has 20 years of experience teaching all levels of math, and has been dubbed the “Math Therapist.”

You will master concepts and computations in whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios and proportions, negative and positive numbers, powers and roots, order of operations, applying basic formulas, and/or intro statistics, algebra...all skills to help you reach your goals.  This is an in-person class with ongoing enrollment.
