This course is perfect for adults who need to prepare for success on college entrance or licensure exams, including the Accuplacer, HESI, and PRAXIS, and/or earn a high school credit in the subject. The classroom atmosphere is fun and relaxed, and includes direct instruction, hands-on activities, and online learning. Registrants should be somewhat confident in operations with arithmetic.  Please register for Math for Life & Work beforehand, which is open enrollment, to brush-up on those skills.  Alternatively, a score of 240 or higher on the Arithmetic Accuplacer is highly recommended. To enroll in this class, call 664.7110, email adultedinfo@ellsworthschools.org or text 207.613.6460 to make an appointment with our student advisor (in person or on ZOOM) so we can tailor a math support to meet your needs!  

This is an in-person and live online class using ZOOM. You can join either way. 

No class 11/23/22 or 12/28/22.  Makeup class, if needed, 03/01/23.

Google Docs: Basics

Google docs is an invaluable and easy to use online tool similar to Microsoft Word. It's free, accessible from all devices and is super easy to share. Learn how to create documents, master useful formatting functions, share documents with others, and more as time permits. This workshop will introduce you to these features and share resources for futher learning.  This is an in-person class. Makeup class, if needed, 3/12/24

You’ll need a Gmail account for this workshop, and will need to know your account username and password.  It’s ideal if you access your Gmail on the web vs. a computer-based program.  If you’re not sure what this means, please contact us and we’ll be glad to assist you!  Google applications are free and are a practical way to learn programs without investing in software.

Human Biology with Lab (Online)

This online course presents the major human biological principles including biochemistry, cell biology, DNA and genetics, human anatomy and physiology, including directional terms and orientation, and more.  Students will experience the process of science through the conduction of virtual dissections, microscopy and other laboratory experiments and research.  Whenever possible, equipment and supplies will be available for loan for lab sessions. Upon successful completion, students will earn one high school diploma credit. This is an independent study course.  

You will be using an interactive and engaging online Human Biology course with the ongoing support from the instructor during office hours scheduled Mondays 5pm-6pm.  Instructor will guide you through the labs.

Google Tasks: Get it Done!

Google Tasks is a little known feature of the Google Suites. The tasks can be linked with calendar events, emails and other google features that can really assist with efficiently working through your to-do list without losing track of what you need to get done. This is an in-peson class. Calendar Mar 4, 2024 at 5 pm, runs for 10 weeks

This course is designed to help adults improve their writing, proofreading, editing, and revising to prepare for the general expectations of college English and college writing.  We will cover the basics of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph development, and will eventually write effective essays with clear ideas, smooth transitions, and logical support.  We will practice planning, research, prewriting, and organizing our writing.  We will learn to write different types of essays, to properly format them, to cite sources, and to avoid plagiarism. Learning to proofread for punctuation, usage, content, and support will be emphasized.  

Mondays, February 26-May 6th, 5-6:30pm.  Makeup day May 13th. This is an in-person class with asynchronous work on Schoology, a learning management platform.

Emily Nash brings many years of experience teaching adult education and has strong skills in designing curriculum to meet the real needs of students. She’s respectful and sensitive to the needs of adult learners and is always a good listening ear. She loves to read, and between stints as an adult education teacher, she is a seasonal professional landscaper. Emily is a student advisor, and teaches English, HiSET prep and Multilingual Learners.

Are you interested in feeling more confident in communicating with others and on a team?  Teamwork and communication in the 21st century are skills that direct service employers want their employees to have. 

This 8-week, in-person course is designed to introduce the components of the skills of listening actively, strengthening relationships and focusing on solutions through communication, and to provide an opportunity to practice and demonstrate these skills.  There will be lots of listening, responding, teamwork, and talking about problems and solutions.  This course is a component of the Early Childhood Education Micro-credential, but anyone can benefit!  This is an in-person class.  No class 11/22/23; makeup class, if needed, 12/06/23.

Forms is the Google Suite App that allows you to create surveys, proposals and so much more.
