The Ellsworth School Department is looking for substitutes in all departments - teachers, ed techs, secretaries, bus drivers, and custodians.  Effective substitutes need to know how to access policies and procedures, as well as the facilities.  This workshop addresses these topics, as well as the application process, tools and tips for classroom management and instructional practices for substitute teachers.  It will be followed up by a meeting with school administrators at relevant schools. This is an in-person workshop.

Some examples of using Microsoft Excel as practical tools include the amortization table, 20 top functions companies want their employees to know, and pivot tables. This is a live online class using ZOOM.

Val is a lifelong business educator and academic advisor focused on helping enrich and enhance students' educational and life purposes. He is experienced in college management and, as an adult educator having taught at the Mid-State College and Kennebec Valley Community College. His teaching experience covers over 45 years in the areas of computer applications, accounting, and Quickbooks training workshops.

Ellsworth Adult & Community Education is working with MDI Hospital and Birch Bay Village to offer a Certified Nursing Assistant PLUS course which meets the newly reduced state requirement of 130 hours (70 hours of classroom, 20 hours of lab and 40 hours of clinical experience).

Additionally, CNA PLUS offers BLS, CPR & First Aid, Digital Literacy Certification and a WorkReady credential.  Interested students can begin on the Northstar Digital Literacy and WorkReady Credentials anytime. Getting a head start will lesson your load during the class sessions. 

Classroom sessions are online, the lab sessions are in-person at Hancock County Technical Center in Ellsworth, and the clinical sessions are on MDI.  As a result of feedback from employers, we are complementing our CNA program with two additional standards-based work readiness and digital literacy courses.  Upon successful completion of this course, passing the State CNA exam and successful acceptance to the State Registry, students will be state-certified CNAs. 

  • This is a hybrid course (combination of live online and in-person learning).   
  • A CNA PLUS Orientation session is required.  Please read through the attached materials before attending the orientation session to make sure all your questions are answered! 
  • Attached please find the Fall 2023 CNA ScheduleCNA Application Packet; Syllabus, and Skills Listing. If you're not able to download and/or print these documents, call to arrange a time to pick up copies at our center.  Summer hours are Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 8:30am-5:00pm, and by appointment.

If you need to up your game in the technology department to improve work options, these sessions are just for you! 

Many are skilled at some aspects of technology (email, social media, texting, apps) but not always the tools needed in the world of work - word processing, spreadsheets, business communications, time management tools, internet research, and more. 

If you are interested in improving your career options, there are many offerings in our program that can assist you in reaching your goals. This option will get you on the road to building your skills and confidence for success.  You will work with a veteran instructor to design your own individualized program.
