Ellsworth Adult & Community Education is a new partner of the NDEC. Classes are available this semester at the  adult education center in Ellsworth.  There is a volunteer that supports adult learners in the classroom and the instructor zooms into the classroom.  

Applying for the Affordable Connectivity Program  The Affordable Connectivity Program is an FCC program that was put in place to help low-income families pay for the cost of connecting to broadband internet access. In this class, we will look at qualifying for and applying for the benefit and what you can expect from internet service providers.  No devices are required, just bring yourself. Google Calendar is a versatile and shareable calendar that is used by many public and private employers.  It's also very useful for busy families who are juggling lots of activities. This is an in-person class.

You’ll need a Gmail account for this workshop, and will need to know your account username and password.  It’s ideal if you access your Gmail on the web vs. a computer-based program.  If you’re not sure what this means, please contact us and we’ll be glad to assist you!  Google applications are free and are a practical way to learn programs without investing in software.

Telehealth-Connecting with Your Healthcare Provider from Home  In this class we will look at how you can connect with your healthcare provider from the comfort of your own home. Telehealth is the new Home Visit, allowing healthcare providers to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients, whether it’s for check ups, consultations, or a follow-up appointment. We will discuss the process;  from setting up your initial appointment, what to expect, insurance and patient portals to community resources. No devices are required; just bring yourself.

Learn about the different types of internet fraud and scams, the dos and don’ts of protecting yourself online and what to do if you have experienced online fraud or abuse. No devices are required; just bring yourself.

 You are comfortable with your camera and you want more! In this class we will explore the use of intermediate camera controls such as metering (spot, matrix, center weight), exposure and exposure compensation, ISO, aperture and shutter priority. We will take an in-depth look at manual focus and its use, fill flash and flash modes, as well as controlling motion, composition, and many other intermediate and advanced techniques. You should be familiar with your camera (also, bring your camera manual to class) and be ready for some in-depth photographic training.

Steve McGrath is a professional freelance photographer and photography teacher who has been creating images for 20 years. Steve first began by shooting sports photography for local high schools, then weddings, and stock agencies. His love of the outdoors led him to focusing more on his true passion. Steve was an active member of the Gateway Camera Club for many years, and has won many ribbons and awards at fairs and competitions through the club and on his own. Many of his images have been published in school text books.

This class walks you through the process of creating an online account. We also discuss how to recover your password should you forget it, what the potential issues are for privacy and safety, and how to best navigate those issues. No devices are required; just bring yourself. 

 

 

Google Docs: Basics

Google docs is an invaluable and easy to use online tool similar to Microsoft Word. It's free, accessible from all devices and is super easy to share. Learn how to create documents, master useful formatting functions, share documents with others, and more as time permits. This workshop will introduce you to these features and share resources for futher learning.  This is an in-person class. Makeup class, if needed, 3/12/24

Vanessa loves working with adult learners. She is really easy to be around and makes people extremely comfortable; she even makes learning math and computers fun! She is committed to helping adults discover their strengths, build their confidence, and realize they can accomplish their goals. In her free time, she loves to travel and explore the outdoors. Vanessa teaches math, science, technology, and provides college and career advising.

 

Google Tasks: Get it Done!

The tasks can be linked with calendar events, emails and other google features that can really assist with efficiently working through your to-do list without losing track of what you need to get done. This is an in-peson class.
