Gentle Fitness for Health (April)

This class offers seated strength and flexibility exercises to improve mobility and fall prevention. All exercises will support people with arthritis, osteoporosis and other health concerns if they are cleared by their primary care provider.  This is a live, online class using ZOOM; no class 5/26/25.

Stress Reduction and Relaxation with Therapeutic Yoga (JAN)

This 60-minute yoga class will provide sequences that calm the nervous system, along with stretching/warming the muscles and preparing the mind to rest.  Breathing techniques, short meditation and positive affirmations will end the practice.  This is a live online class using ZOOM. Chair Yoga-A Morning Practice off the Mat (Jan)

This morning class, practiced in a chair, offers mind and body benefits without having to get up and off the floor or even changing into yoga clothes!  Enjoy a “pick me up” at home or at your office by using structural techniques to improve your range of motion, relax tight or overused muscles, and release tension from the mind. This is a live, online class using ZOOM. No Class 2/20/25

Ellsworth Adult & Community Education is working with MDI Hospital and Birch Bay Village to offer a Certified Nursing Assistant course.

This course is a hybrid with classroom sessions live online using ZOOM on Mondays and Tuesdays, 5:00p-8:30p; and lab sessions held in-person for 6 Wednesday evenings, followed by 5 in-person clinical sessions.

CNA Plus also offers BLS, CPR & First Aid, Digital Literacy Certification and a WorkReady credential. Pre-requisites are access to high speed internet, basic computer skills and a computer.  

Interested students can begin on the Northstar Digital Literacy and WorkReady Credentials starting in October 2024. A packet of materials including a syllabus, schedule, and application will be available here by the beginning of August.

This course is free for Maine residents who plan to work at a facility in Hancock County. It is funded by a Strengthen Maine's Workforce Grant offered by the State of Maine. 

English Conversation Partner & Cultural Navigator Info Session

Ellsworth School Department is seeking volunteer conversation partners and cultural navigators for individuals and families.  Our multilingual adult learner population is exploding, and we need your support to provide services to these motivated individuals. 

They need:

  1. to practice their English;
  2. cultural mentors so they can navigate life and work in our community; 
  3. support in identifying their level, through assessment; and 
  4. social emotional support.

French for Travelers: Practical Language Skills for Your Journey

This 6-week workshop is designed for beginners and those planning a trip to a French-speaking region. Through immersive, hands-on lessons, participants will learn essential phrases and vocabulary for everyday situations like ordering food, navigating transportation, and making local connections. Gain confidence in speaking and understanding French, while also exploring cultural tips to enhance your travel experience. This is a live, online class using ZOOM.

No class 02/17/25; makeup class, if needed, 03/17/25.

France Hilbert has taught classes at College of the Atlantic since 2018. She is a professional artist and art educator with an extensive resume of training and experience including major commissions and installations. Her artistic education began at the age of seven, when she was taught by her grandfather, the late artist Jaro Hilbert. From him, she received a thorough education in the classical tradition. She pursued her formal education at the National Fine Art Academy of Paris, France, (ENSBA), was an artist in residence in Copenhagen, studied German Expressionism in Berlin, and traveled extensively to paint and study around Europe and abroad. At the Art Students League of New York, she received a Merit Scholarship to master portraiture in painting and completed a Certificate in Sculpture. She was selected for “Model to Monument”, a sculpture program at The Academy of Art, Newington Cropsey Foundation, Hastings on Hudson, NY and received an Edward G. McDowell Travel Grant from the Art Students League of New York. Of her many public and private commissions, some are permanent installations. “Talma”, a 7-foot bronze sculpture is installed in the public square of the Theatre of the Valley of L’Yerres, in Brunoy, France. A pair of 4-foot bronze relief sculptures entitled ”The Calling” are installed at the Georgetown University Medical School building in Washington, DC.
