Applying for Federal jobs is different than applying for jobs in almost any other business or industry. Join representatives from Acadia National Park for a 2-hour workshop to learn about employment opportunities at Acadia, how to write a Federal Resume, and the application process. Acadia National Park hires more than 100 seasonal and many permanent employees each year into jobs that have great potential for developing into exciting careers. Ellsworth Adult & Community Education is working with MDI Hospital and Birch Bay Village to offer a Certified Nursing Assistant course.  This orientation is an information session, providing you with enough information to determine if our CNA+ program is a good fit for you this winter.  We will provide an overview of the program as well as provide information about the admissions process.  This is an in-person session.

The CNA Plus program is a comprehensive hybrid with classroom sessions live online using ZOOM on Mondays and Tuesdays, 5:00p-8:30p; and lab sessions held in-person for 6 Wednesday evenings, followed by 5 in-person clinical sessions.

CNA Plus also offers BLS, CPR & First Aid, Digital Literacy Certification and a WorkReady credential. Pre-requisites are access to high speed internet, basic computer skills and a computer and sufficient reading skills for class success.   

Interested students can begin on the Northstar Digital Literacy and WorkReady Credentials anytime.  This orientation will provide you with all the information you need to decide if the CNA+ course is a good fit for you this winter.  

This course is free for Maine residents who plan to work at a facility in this region.  It is funded by a Strengthen Maine's Workforce Grant offered by the State of Maine.

When you bundle this Heartsaver CPR & First Aid class with Basic First Aid (scheduled on the same day)To register for the bundled option look for Basic First Aid and Heartsaver CPR Adult/Child/Infant Bundle.  

This course certifies the student in cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills for adults, infants, and children as well as choking protocols. It also teaches competency in both Automated External Defibrillator use and Narcan.  This is an in-person class.

The STOP THE BLEED® Interactive Course guides you through the three methods of bleeding control using video demonstrations, interactive learning, and spontaneous quizzes.

A bleeding injury can happen anywhere. We've all seen it happen too often—on the news or in everyday life. Life-threatening bleeding can happen in people injured in serious accidents or disasters. Instead of being a witness, you can become an immediate responder because you know how to STOP THE BLEED®.

The person next to a bleeding victim may very well be the one who’s most likely to save him or her from bleeding to death. By learning how to STOP THE BLEED®, you’ll gain the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding, and act quickly and effectively to control bleeding once you learn three quick techniques.

Take the STOP THE BLEED® training course and become empowered to make a life or death difference when a bleeding emergency happens.  This is an in-person class.

If you, or someone you know, want to practice strategies for reading and writing in a safe, friendly environment, this is the course for you. 

Reading and writing are complex.  The teacher will share the skills necessary to understand what you read, and to build your vocabulary and your confidence with writing.  Using articles, books, vocabulary exercises and online computer applications, increase your ability to read, write, remember, and feel confident in the world.  This is an in-person class with ongoing enrollment through May.

Emily Nash brings many years of experience teaching adult education and has strong skills in designing curriculum to meet the real needs of students. She’s respectful and sensitive to the needs of adult learners and is always a good listening ear. She loves to read, and between stints as an adult education teacher, she is a seasonal professional landscaper. Emily is a student advisor, and teaches English, HiSET prep and Multilingual Learners.

This course is designed to help adults improve their reading, writing, proofreading, editing, and revising to prepare for standardized exams.  We cover the basics of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph development, and will eventually write effective essays with clear ideas, smooth transitions, and logical support.  We will practice planning, research, prewriting, and organizing our writing.  Learning to proofread for punctuation, usage, content, and support will be emphasized.  This is an in-person class with ongoing enrollment through May.

Learn basic math like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, individually or in small groups. We’ll use a hands-on approach to learning math concepts so you can confidently use it in your daily life. This is an in-person class with ongoing enrollment.
