English - Critical Reading & Writing - Block 4

This course will help adults develop strong reading skills including fluency, summarizing, making inferences, and distinguishing the difference between fact and opinion. Reading for understanding is a complex skill and there are a lot of strategies to learn to create a toolbox that will serve you a lifetime. Activities will include reading, discussing and analyzing written passages, charts, graphs, and other text. Areas of study will include English, Social Studies and Sciences. It is a self-paced class with an individually designed learning plan for each student. While this course is offered three days per week, there is ample opportunity to schedule additional time on-site and at home with on-line learning. This course is designed for people preparing for the HiSET exam, college entrance exams, college courses and work-related reading. High School diploma credit is awarded for this course.
