American Sign Language 2
with Carrie Pierce
This course will build on the foundation of ASL 1. We will be increasing our comprehension of topics and watch our conversation skills unfold. We will use grammar skills of ASL. These will include contrastive structure, classifiers, listing, use of verbs, and asking questions. Vocabulary topics will be based on the needs of the class. The course is taught without the use of voice. Students will continue to develop strategies to communicate without talking. Course is taught by playing games, peer interaction and group work. Students should be able to recall vocabulary taught in ASL 1, based on food, feelings, opinions, family, animals, the calendar and a few questions. Students should have at least 12 hours of prior experience with a certified ASL Deaf Instructor. Carrie Pierce is a deaf woman and nationally certified ASL teacher, teaching at universities and adult ed programs throughout Maine. Makeup class (if needed) 06/20/18.
