Hannah Horecka was trained in Hatha Vinyasa Yoga at ShivaShakti School of Yoga in Camden, Maine. She has been practicing yoga for over 13 years and owns Quiet Strength Yoga Studio in Ellsworth. Her teachings are focused on proper alignment and body mechanics to heal and strengthen every body.

Plant-based Cooking for Health

Five years ago, Marc Blanchette began his transition to a plant-based lifestyle during his 184 lb. weight loss. He has continued to maintain his health and weight with exercise and a diet of grains, fruits, beans, legumes and vegetables. In this class, he will share his story and experience through this journey. Marc will teach the steps that he took to find better health through the power of a plant-based lifestyle. The class is designed to show how simple and affordable this way of cooking and eating can be, dispel the myths, break stereotypes and equip participants with the tools and resources needed to be successful. There will be cooking demos, food to sample, easily prepared recipes to share, local shopping tips and group support. Makeup class (if needed) 11/01/18.

Through the study of plant-based nutrition, education, seminars and years of cooking in his own kitchen, Marc has become an accomplished cook and is willing to share his knowledge of whole food, plant-based cooking. Now retired, he is also Ellsworth City Council Chairman.

In our non-judgmental class environment, we will explore the essentials of looking to see, becoming aware of line, value, texture, negative and positive space, perspective and proportions while experimenting with mark-making tools besides pencils.

Course materials are available for purchase online (dickblick.com), at AC Moore and Hobby Lobby in Bangor, and Shirley’s Yarns & Crafts in Hancock (10% discount for Adult Education students). Makeup class (if needed) 11/13/18.

Margaret is a Certified Art Instructor with 25 years of experience in public school and private teaching. Her work has been exhibited widely and she has curatorial experience through her employment at the Blue Hill Public Library.

 

Substitute Teacher Training

Effective substitute teachers need to know how to access policies and procedures, facilities and lesson plans. They also need to understand the school culture and have a toolkit of instructional, classroom and behavior management strategies. This workshop addresses these topics and introduces you to key staff in the Ellsworth School Department buildings, as there is one training session in each school.  This is a 3-week course and attendance at all sessions is required.

JoAnne is a graduate of the California Culinary Academy. Since moving to Maine, she has worked as a professional pastry chef and owned a dessert catering company, as well as teaching cooking classes. Her classes are designed to be hands-on but are also perfect for those who may wish to just observe. The class always makes every item listed and everyone gets to sample. JoAnne advises students not to eat dinner before coming to class because there is so much food! Each student will receive a full print-out recipe packet to take home!
