Fly Fishing - Basic Fly Casting

The goal of this course is to provide students with the casting skills necessary to fish effectively on your own. This is a “hands-on” course, so your time will be spent with a fly rod in hand, working on your own casting. Most instruction will be done is small groups, but casting suggestions will also be offered on an individual basis. Videotape analysis of your casting stroke will be provided. Students are encourage to use their own fly rod and reel, but equipment will be available for anyone who needs it. Please do not buy new equipment just to take this course. This course will be taught in Orono by Registered Maine Guide Kevin Tracewski (directions will be sent to registered students). Makeup class (if needed) Sunday 04/22/18.
Fly Fishing: Introduction to Fly Fishing

This course is designed to get you solidly grounded in the fundamentals needed to enjoy fly fishing. Topics covered include tackle selection and assembly, knots, fly casting, fish foods, artificial flies, fly fishing strategies, entomology, and wading safety. We’ll talk about the basics of soil science and how to enrich your soil to produce healthy, high-yielding plants. The course will also cover the fundamentals of making and using compost, the principles of crop rotation and how to incorporate green manures to manage nutrients in the garden. Other topics will include how to tell the difference between cultivated plants and weeds, basic weed control strategies and cultural methods for dealing with pests. The instructor will be an experienced farmer or gardener from your region. We will even send you home with free seeds! All are welcome, from first-timers to experienced gardeners who want to experiment with new techniques.
Heartsaver™ Adult First Aid CPR AED

A classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid, CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. Ernie has been teaching CPR/First Aid courses for more than 20 years as well as outdoor recreation safety courses for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The certificate obtained from taking the class is good for two years. HoMEworks homebuyer education classes provide an opportunity to learn about the home buying process in a neutral environment.
