Irish Pennywhistle: Beyond Beginners

This class will go beyond the fundamentals of playing tunes on the Irish Pennywhistle (tin whistle). It will focus on learning tunes by ear, ornamentation, and playing with other musicians. Some experience playing simple tunes and scales is expected. Chris Gray plays with musicians in Ireland and Maine, studied at Gaelic College in Cape Breton and University College in Cork, where he received his diploma in Irish Traditional Music and M.A. Ethnomusicology. Chuck Whitney has been a science educator in Hancock County schools and adjunct college faculty member for 27 years. He has been playing Celtic music and making musical instruments for the last 17 years. No class 02/21/18; makeup class (if needed) 04/04/18.


Maine Driving Dynamics (May)

A Bureau of Highway Safety course aimed at improving a student's defensive driving awareness and abilities. The 5-hour course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. The course format engages participants with a mixture of lectures, videos, and class discussion and participation. Upon completion, students will receive a 3-point credit on their driving record. Some insurance companies give discounts after completing this course, so check with your company for details. Makeup class (if needed) 05/08/18. Note: Fee: Under age 65 - $40.00; age 65 and over - $25.00. Online registration is not available for the senior discount; please call our office at 664.7110 to register.

This course will review the skills needed to create basic Word documents and the different ways that you can utilize the program. This course will cover navigating the ribbon and tool bar; understanding page layout, fonts, and formatting; how to copy, cut and paste information; understanding how to utilize basic shortcuts; set alignments; create tables in the document; export Word into a different format such as PDF; insert and edit text boxes, shapes, and pictures to create a flyer. Alison is a certified math instructor and brings 15 years of retail management experience to her teaching.

Yoga: Beginners Hatha Yoga Session 2 (Dates changed to March/April)

Beginners Hatha Yoga builds body awareness and flexibility through slower-moving progressions of traditional postures and conscious breathing. Props are used to allow every body type to experience the benefits of a yoga asana (posture) practice. Whether you are brand new to yoga or have limitations that have kept you from trying yoga in the past, you can feel safe and supported when you explore your own practice in this class. Hannah was trained in Hatha Vinyasa Yoga at ShivaShakti School of Yoga in Camden and has been practicing yoga for over 12 years.
