Introduction to Computers

This course is intended for those that want a gentle yet thorough introduction on how to use their computers to meet their professional and/or personal needs. Students will learn about the inner workings of their computer.  They will learn how to choose a computer that is best for meeting their needs; how to customize the setup, install virus protection, use a variety of free software, create files; and, how to organize their system so that information saved can be easily be retrieved.  Students will learn to “safely” surf the net. Lastly, they will learn the various ways they can share pictures and files on a professional or personal level.  Students will be able to confidently personalize their computer settings, navigate through their files, and successfully communicate with others. Absolutely no previous computer experience or knowledge is required. Makeup class (if needed) 11/13/18.


Microsoft Office 2013 Excel

Calendar Nov 9, 2018 at 12 pm, runs for 4 weeks

Students will be provided with the tools and skills needed to create, format, and use basic spreadsheets, learn the various methods of entering data, editing data, using formulas for everyday calculations, creating charts and graphics, filter and sort table data, and work with pivot tables. By the end of this course, students will be able to use Excel with confidence to meet the expectations of most employers. No class 11/23/18. Makeup class (if needed) 12/14/18.

Prerequisite: MS Word or equivalent knowledge (see description for MS Word).

Microsoft Office 2013 Word

Calendar Oct 5, 2018 at 12 pm, runs for 4 weeks

Students will be given an overview of the different features of Microsoft Word and be provided an opportunity to use the skills to produce real-life professional looking documents. Documents include developing resumes and CVs, creating merge documents, making invitations and all-occasion cards, designing flyers, printing envelopes, etc. Other skills covered are typing with efficiency, formatting, editing, document spacing, altering margins, page numbering and saving/organizing documents. By the end of this course, students will have attained the knowledge that is expected by most employers. Makeup class (if needed) 11/02/18.
