Basic Computer Skills Certificate Program

More and more jobs require computer skills and some employers require all job seekers to apply online for jobs. Many jobs require employees to know how to use email, search the internet, create documents, and handle other digital literacy tasks. Ellsworth Adult Education has partnered with NorthStar Basic Computer to teach digital literacy skills and document mastery by awarding certificates while also preparing the next steps for your career path. Join this self-paced learning lab to learn basic computer skills.The initial assessment determines the skills and knowledge you need to design a program to meet your own needs. Your adviser will work with you to set up a program. To earn a certificate, each assessment must be taken in a supervised setting. Priority given to High School Completion and Certificate program students. Open to the public on a space available basis.
Certified Nursing Assistant

Ellsworth Adult Education offers a CNA course meeting the Maine State requirement of 180 hours (110 hours of classroom/lab and 70 hours of clinical experience) and, if needed, 6 hours of CPR instruction. Clinicals are held at area health care facilities. Upon successful completion of this course, passing the State CNA Exam and successful acceptance to the Maine State CNA Registry, candidates will become certified nursing assistants.

There is an admissions process that includes attending an orientation, completing an application, securing employer references, having up to date immunizations and a current physical, and taking a reading and math assessment (CASAS).
Office Skills - Model Office

These days most jobs require strong office skills-technology (computers, phones, projectors, scanners, copiers), and business writing and math, customer service skills and transferable skills like reliability and initiative. Ellsworth Adult Education is working with local businesses and organizations to offer a hands-on training program to prepare you to work for a local employers. From the beginning of the program, you’ll meet with local employers; informational and mock interviews, special projects and job shadows are all ways you might be involved. You will build your skills, knowledge and confidence; earn a certificate valued by local employers; gain experience in a variety of employment settings. Our standards-based program allows you to demonstrate mastery. Everyone comes to us with different strengths. You spend as much time as you need on the following areas: job readiness, customer service, office communications, business math, digital literacy, Microsoft Suite, Google Productivity Applications, internet research and keyboarding. The Office Skills model office will be complemented with other activities in the program to meet your career goals.
