College Connections Workshop

Calendar Mar 1, 2019 at 1 pm, runs for 12 weeks

Entering the college world can be a daunting and overwhelming process. In this low-key, fun-filled workshop, learn about and take the necessary steps in finding and applying to the right school/program of study for you. Enroll at anytime, even after the course has begun, as the topics are broken down into 1-3 week modules. Topics include the following:

  • Career interest inventory and personality profile;
  • Computer and technology skills for college success;
  • Explore Maine and other US colleges via internet and local college visits;
  • College lingo - what do AA, BS, FAFSA & EFC mean?;
  • Test taking, study skills and learning resources;
  • Local college prep and access programs, such as MEOC, adult education academic classes, etc.;
  • College and financial aid applications, including scholarships.

No class 04/19/19. Makeup class (if needed) 06/07/19.

College Success-Online Hybrid

Calendar Feb 1, 2019 at 11:30 am, runs for 7 weeks

This is a blended learning class, designed for you to invest in your college readiness. The first and last classes will be “live” (in person) at Ellsworth Adult Education, and the intervening classes will be completed online. You will:increase your readiness by helping you to understand yourself as a learner and the student and community resources important to success; practice the reading, writing, and digital skills necessary to succeed in your early college courses; develop important study strategies to effectively navigate your college classes, and better understand the expectations of college instructors and how to meet these expectations. The requirements will include readings, assessments, videos, online discussions, and essays.

Prerequisites: Computer skills and the ability to work individually.

The course will run from Friday, February 1, 2019 through Friday, March 29, 2019. Class will meet in person at Ellsworth Adult Education on only two Fridays: 02/01/19 & 03/29/19 - 11:30a-2:00p. Makeup class (if needed) 04/05/19.

Dress for Success on a Shoestring (Session 1)

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to dress for success. Join us for a four-session workshop to share tips on looking your best at interviews or on the job. This workshop will include field trips to local establishments. Fee waivers available for Learning Center participants. No class 04/12/19 or 04/19/19; makeup class (if needed) 05/10/19.
