Chemistry with Lab

This course provides students with an introduction to the major theories and concepts in Chemistry. This science will be explored through lectures, lab activities, projects, and research. Math skills needed to perform necessary calculations will also be reviewed. By the end of this course, students will have gained a true understanding of the composition of matter, how matter is categorized, how matter interacts, the Atomic Theory throughout history, the signs and causes of chemical reactions, and the properties and structure of matter. Furthermore, this course will allow students to improve upon their problem-solving skills and gain a true and deeper understanding of why they are seeing what they are seeing and just how much chemistry is used in everyday life. Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn one high school diploma credit (a prerequisite for acceptance to several local college programs). No class 02/19/19 or 04/16/19. Makeup class (if needed) 05/26/19.
College Connections Workshop

Entering the college world can be a daunting and overwhelming process. In this low-key, fun-filled workshop, learn about and take the necessary steps in finding and applying to the right school/program of study for you. Enroll at anytime, even after the course has begun, as the topics are broken down into 1-3 week modules. Topics include the following:
- Career interest inventory and personality profile;
- Computer and technology skills for college success;
- Explore Maine and other US colleges via internet and local college visits;
- College lingo - what do AA, BS, FAFSA & EFC mean?;
- Test taking, study skills and learning resources;
- Local college prep and access programs, such as MEOC, adult education academic classes, etc.;
- College and financial aid applications, including scholarships.
No class 04/19/19. Makeup class (if needed) 06/07/19.
College Prep Algebra

This course is perfect for adults who need to prepare for success on a college entrance or licensure examination, including the Accuplacer, HESI, and PRAXIS, pass the HiSET math test, and/or earn a high school credential in the subject. The classroom atmosphere is fun and relaxed, and includes direct instruction, hands-on activities, and online learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn one high school diploma credit. No class 02/21/19 or 04/18/19.
Prerequisites: Confidence in whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages, or Arithmetic Accuplacer score of 50+. Math for College & Work or Pre-Algebra will provide necessary preparation. Call for an appointment to find out your next step.
