This course provides students with an opportunity to develop an understanding of the relationships between the structures and functions of the body. Students will be introduced to mechanisms for maintaining homeostasis within the human body and the problems that can ensue when the mechanisms do not function properly. This course will involves participating in lectures, lab activities, projects, dissections, making of models and diagrams, journal writing and evaluating clinical studies. Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn high school diploma credit. No class 02/21/19 or 04/18/19. Makeup class (if needed) 05/02/19.

 

Chemistry with Lab

This course provides students with an introduction to the major theories and concepts in Chemistry. This science will be explored through lectures, lab activities, projects, and research. Math skills needed to perform necessary calculations will also be reviewed. By the end of this course, students will have gained a true understanding of the composition of matter, how matter is categorized, how matter interacts, the Atomic Theory throughout history, the signs and causes of chemical reactions, and the properties and structure of matter. Furthermore, this course will allow students to improve upon their problem-solving skills and gain a true and deeper understanding of why they are seeing what they are seeing and just how much chemistry is used in everyday life. Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn one high school diploma credit (a prerequisite for acceptance to several local college programs). No class 02/19/19 or 04/16/19. Makeup class (if needed) 05/28/19.

Learn planning, organizing and study skills, how to juggle school, work and home life, and navigate the finances of starting on the path to a college education. Concrete tips on note taking, test taking, and study materials will be shared. Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn one high school diploma/college credit. No class 11/21/18 or 12/26/18.

Please note that the start date for this class has been changed to October 16th.  This course presents the major biological principles including biochemistry, cell biology, DNA and genetics, anatomy and physiology, viruses and bacteria, and more. Students will experience the process of science by conducting virtual dissections, microscopy, researching, and presenting. Upon successful completion, students will earn one high school diploma credit (a prerequisite for acceptance to several local college programs). No class 11/20/18, 12/25/18 or 01/01/19. This course is geared to introduce students to the principles of medical word building so that they can develop an understanding of the extensive vocabulary that is used in health care occupations. Students will receive comprehensive instruction through a study of root words, prefixes, and suffixes so that what they learn will also be applicable in other courses and/or fields of study. We will emphasize correct pronunciation, spelling and use of the medical terms discussed. Although anatomy, physiology and pathology of diseases are discussed, extensive knowledge in this area is not required. Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn high school diploma credit. No class 11/22/18. Makeup class (if needed) 12/20/18.

This course is perfect for adults who need to prepare for success on a college entrance or licensure examination, including the Accuplacer, HESI, and PRAXIS, pass the HiSET math test, and/or earn a high school credential in the subject. The course is designed to prepare you to succeed in college-level mathematics in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. You will master concepts and computations in whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios and proportions, negative and positive numbers, powers and roots, and more! Emphasis will also be on developing self-study skills and habits to be successful in mathematics and other subjects, becoming familiar with free online resources, and applying mathematics in real life situations. Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn one high school diploma credit. No class 11/22/18 or 12/27/18. Makeup class (if needed) 01/24/19.
