If you want to practice strategies for reading and writing in a safe, friendly environment, this is the course for you. Reading and writing are complex. The teacher will share the skills necessary to understand what you read, and to build your vocabulary and your confidence with writing. Using articles, books, vocabulary exercises and online computer applications, increase your ability to read, write, remember, and feel confident in the world. Ongoing enrollment.

This is a self-paced course which can be taken for diploma credit, designed to help adults improve their writing and reading while preparing for college entrance exams, college classes, and the world of work. We will cover the basics of grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure, paragraph development, and will eventually write effective essays with clear ideas, smooth transitions, and logical support. We will practice pre-writing, planning, research, and organizing our writing. Learning to proofread for punctuation, usage, content and support will be emphasized. An aspect of the practice will be reading diverse materials and analyzing them for main ideas, supporting evidence, and the proper use of the mechanics of English, all while increasing digital literacy. Ongoing enrollment.

In this workshop, you’ll be shown how to set up a Gmail account and you’ll learn how to send mail, read and forward emails, receive and read mail and attach a document to an email.  You’ll also learn how to attach a document to an email and download and read a document that has been sent to you.  Basic computer skills, including hardware and software basics, and email are required for this workshop.  You can bring your own laptop or use one provided.  Makeup class (if needed) 04/03/20.

When you are new to computers there is so much to navigate and the first step is to learn your way around your device and all the accessories.  In this workshop you’ll learn about the buttons, ports and accessories. Learning to use a mouse and trackpad will also be covered.  Once you can turn on your computer and find your way to your desktop, you’ll want to know what programs are available, how to find them on your computer and/or how to purchase them as well as their functions.  No computer experience necessary.  You can bring your own laptop or use one provided.  Makeup class (if needed) 02/14/20.
