If you, or someone you know, want to practice strategies for reading and writing in a safe, friendly environment, this is the course for you. 

Reading and writing are complex.  The teacher will share the skills necessary to understand what you read, and to build your vocabulary and your confidence with writing.  Using articles, books, vocabulary exercises and online computer applications, increase your ability to read, write, remember, and feel confident in the world.  This is an in-person class with ongoing enrollment through May.

Emily Nash brings many years of experience teaching adult education and has strong skills in designing curriculum to meet the real needs of students. She’s respectful and sensitive to the needs of adult learners and is always a good listening ear. She loves to read, and between stints as an adult education teacher, she is a seasonal professional landscaper. Emily is a student advisor, and teaches English, HiSET prep and Multilingual Learners.

This course is designed to help adults improve their reading, writing, proofreading, editing, and revising to prepare for standardized exams.  We cover the basics of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph development, and will eventually write effective essays with clear ideas, smooth transitions, and logical support.  We will practice planning, research, prewriting, and organizing our writing.  Learning to proofread for punctuation, usage, content, and support will be emphasized.  This is an in-person class with ongoing enrollment through May.

Vanessa loves working with adult learners. She is really easy to be around and makes people extremely comfortable; she even makes learning math and computers fun! She is committed to helping adults discover their strengths, build their confidence, and realize they can accomplish their goals. In her free time, she loves to travel and explore the outdoors. If you don’t use it, you lose it! This is most notably true about math. Learn math in a fun and relaxed atmosphere including direct instruction, hands-on activities and online learning.  Many of us have anxiety when it comes to math. Our math teacher will start where you are and help you build skills and confidence with math. You learn how to study on your own and start habits to make you confident and successful in math.  This is an in-person class with ongoing enrollment.

AMP Dental Assisting (Feb)

Calendar Feb 3, 2025 at 6 pm, runs for 12 weeks

This is a 12-week Certificate program in Dental Assisting, one of the most high-demand careers.  The program is designed to teach all aspects of dental assisting and provide you with the skills you need to work in this field and pass a national certificate exam.  This program is taught by a dentist and includes Dental Assisting Certification, and an opportunity for internships.  We now offer an option for lab days, please ask for more details! 

The price of the course includes all books, exam preparation materials and fees for the DANB RHS® certificate program. Upon passing the DANB RHS®, you will receive a certificate of knowledge based on competency for that component from DANB. Payment plans are available. The classroom hours are live online with options for lab days in a dental office based on student's location and availability. This course is also available asynchronosly online and you can start anytime.

Watercolor Basics (Feb)

Watercolor Painting is an exciting medium; it flows and moves and does beautiful things. Instructor Mary Laury has been recognized for her work by the Maine Arts Commission.  Participants will do landscapes and seascapes in this 4-session course. If you have never painted in watercolors we will start at the beginning. If you have painted before, you may pick up some new tips and tricks as well. We all learn together!   This is an in-person course.  Makeup class, if needed, 03/04/25.

Mary Laury served as the founding Executive Director of Schoodic Arts for All, an award winning non-profit organization celebrating the arts and culture in Downeast Maine for over 20 years. The botanical subjects and dynamic nature of Maine are Mary's passions. An experienced teacher, she has taught painting and drawing in classrooms and in the field for many programs throughout her career.

Google Forms: Gather Information

Forms is the Google Suite App that allows you to create surveys, proposals and so much more. The surveys are easy to create and can automatically be formatted to download to a google sheet which makes reviewing the results quick and easy.  This is an in-person class; 

You’ll need a Gmail account for this workshop, and will need to know your account username and password.  It’s ideal if you access your Gmail on the web vs. a computer-based program.  If you’re not sure what this means, please contact us and we’ll be glad to assist you!  Google applications are free and are a practical way to learn programs without investing in software.

Intermediate Programming with Python

Join experienced Python instructor Dean Greer as he takes you beyond the basics of Python. 

In this next phase, you'll build upon the fundamentals with topics like data structures, intermediate control structures, how to practice coding effectively, and module importation.  Problem solving using previously learned fundamentals will be emphasized, in addition to further instruction material.  The typical prerequisite for this course is “Programming Basics Using Python,” but those with adequate experience, should feel free to sign up.   Students will need either a PC or Mac desktop or laptop computer (no Chrome Books) and a reliable internet connection. This is a live, online class using ZOOM.  

Mr. Greer brings a wealth of experience, having worked in IT since 2004.
